    Characterizing Proof-of-Concept Practices using the Lens of Context Engineering

    In this study, a Proof-of-Concept (PoC) context is acknowledged as an activity system with a set of practices performed by diverse practitioners, aiming to produce knowledge about performance of the technological artifacts under study. Ten PoC practices were identified through content analysis of narratives and observations, supported by the lens of Context Engineering (CE) from Information Systems (IS). CE introduces a framework of problems that help to understand the relevance of context as a fundamental factor in PoC, emphasizing the importance and need for reflection in action, for PoC practitioners. These practices are characterized as a cycle of knowledge production in the PoC context. The authors also identify the hermeneutic character of PoC activities, indicating a need to understand the whole activity system in relation to its constituent parts, while finding the meaning of the parts in the whole PoC context

    Specific hygiene procedures and practices assessment : a cross-sectional study in fresh fishery product retailers of Lisbon’s traditional food markets

    Research Areas: Food Science & TechnologyThis study aimed to assess the compliance of specific hand hygiene and food contact surfaces hygiene in fresh fishery product retailers (FFPR) and its relation to socio-demographic characteristics that might influence the observed procedures and practices. A cross-sectional study was conducted in traditional food markets’ FFPRs (N = 74) using interviews and audits for data collection purposes. Results revealed that women were overrepresented among FFPR managers; most were over 50 years of age and had a long working experience in fish retail activities, despite a low educational level. The majority had attended training courses in food hygiene, safety, and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points-based procedures. Both documental assessment and hand hygiene procedures and practices verification revealed a low level of compliance. Many documents supporting hygiene practices were lacking. Several non-conforming requisites were identified related to the handwashing procedure and equipment and to glove wearing practices. A higher level of compliance was obtained in food contact surfaces hygiene procedures and practices verification, with complete hygiene procedures applied and proper cleaning of utensils and chemical products management in several cases. These findings reflect an ambiguous understanding and misconceptions related to hygiene procedures and practices, suggesting the need to improve and update FFPR food handler training regarding basic food hygiene and safety.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Credit Guarantee and the Impact in Financial Structure of the Portuguese SMEs

    The aim of this work is to show the relevance of guarantees provided by the Mutual Credit Guarantee System (MCGS - the Portuguese Society of Credit Guarantee SPGM) as an instrument used in the financing of SMEs, especially in restructuring long-term debt (LTD) and bank loans. The study provides empirical evidence and puts forward an explanatory model of the influence of the mutual credit guarantees on the financing of SMEs. The results obtained show that long-term debt (LTD) financing is positively influenced by the guarantees provided by the MCGS to SMEs as it allows greater debt capacity, especially in the medium and long term, for firms that usually cannot obtain this type of financing. The results also suggest that this type of guarantees creates an environment of confidence among all stakeholders involved.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Overweight and obesity among mothers of malnourished children - Brazil - PNSN - 1989

    OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the relationship between the nutritional status of the youngest child under 48 months of age (in families with the biological mother present) and their mothers among 3906 children selected from a sample of a national survey in 1989 (PNSN). RESULTS: Malnutrition was present in 5.8% of the children. From these, 21.8%, 60.9% and 17.3% had overweight/obese, eutrophic and malnourished mothers, respectively. Stratified analyses taking into account the regions, situation, income distribution and mother's educational level demonstrated that a lower proportion of malnourished children was concurrent with a higher proportion of overweight/obese mothers. The Kappa test evidenced a poor agreement between the nutritional conditions of the child-mother pairs (K<=0.048). CONCLUSIONS: When the proportion of malnourished children decreased within the analyzed groups, the proportion of overweight/obese mothers increased. Such an epidemiological pattern indicates that within groups in which malnutrition is less prevalent, the proportion of children for whom a lack of food in the household is the main determinant factor for malnutrition is lower.OBJETIVOS: Analisar relação entre estado nutricional das crianças mais novas menores de 48 meses (de famílias com mães biológicas presentes) e suas mães, em 3.906 crianças selecionadas da amostra de inquérito nacional realizado em 1989 (PNSN). RESULTADOS: 5,8% das crianças apresentavam desnutrição. Destas, 21,8% tinham mães com sobrepeso/obesidade, 60,9% mães eutróficas e 17,3% mães desnutridas. Análises estratificadas quanto às regiões, situação, distribuição da renda e escolaridade materna, demonstram que, à menor proporção de crianças desnutridas corresponde maior proporção de mães com sobrepeso/obesidade. O teste Kappa evidenciou fraca concordância entre condições nutricionais das duplas crianças-mães (K<=0,048). CONCLUSÕES: Quando diminuem as proporções de desnutridos nos grupamentos analisados, aumentam as proporções de mães que apresentam sobrepeso/obesidade. Tal padrão epidemiológico indicaria que, nos grupos onde a desnutrição é menos prevalente, é menor a proporção daquelas crianças que tem a falta de alimentos em nível domiciliar como principal fator limitante na determinação da desnutrição.Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)UNIFESPSciEL

    Proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), p53 and MDM2 expression in Hodgkin's disease

    CONTEXT and OBJECTIVE: Tumor cells in Hodgkin's disease (HD) express cell proliferation markers that are evaluated according to the oncogenes involved or the expression of their proteins. Correlations between the protein expression grade and clinical data are now important for disease prognosis.DESIGN and SETTING: This was a retrospective analysis on proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), p53 and MDM2 (murine double minute-2) expression using immunohistochemistry, on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues from diagnostic biopsies on 51 patients with HID. the study was conducted at the Division of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine, Hospital São Paulo, Universidade Federal de São Paulo.METHODS: Antigen expression was evaluated as the proportions of positive Hodgkin and Reed-Sternberg (HRS) cells and reactive lymphocytes (L), which were compared using Spearman correlation coefficients. the Friedman test was used for comparisons between the markers. the Pearson test was used to investigate associations between marker expression and clinical and laboratory parameters, marrow involvement, complete remission (CR) and overall survival (OS) rates.RESULTS: There was overexpression of antigen proteins in HRS, in relation to L (p < 0.001). in HRS, MDM2 was higher than p53 and PCNA (p < 0.003), while the latter two were equivalent. in L, p53 was lower than MDM2 and PCNA (p < 0.001), while the latter two were equivalent.     Controvérsias do programa novo mais educação: contexto de formulação e interpretações na escola

    O presente artigo tem por objetivo apresentar os resultados de uma pesquisa sobre o Programa Novo Mais Educação enquanto política curricular e a tradução dos sujeitos em uma escola municipal em Paulista/PE. A metodologia se inspirou no ciclo de políticas e incluiu uma breve análise do contexto de formulação, das diretrizes presentes no texto oficial e das interpretações de sujeitos que desempenharam o trabalho docente na escola. Essa proposta se insere no contexto do governo ilegítimo de Temer e das suas contradições. Embora tenha sido criado a partir de um contexto que postulava a “educação integral e em tempo integral” do Programa Mais Educação, o “novo” programa ampliava apenas o tempo e possuía uma proposta curricular que se centrava nas avaliações padronizadas (apenas em Português e Matemática), inclusive com a prática de monitoramento de resultados. Assim, reflete o discurso da cultura da performatividade, como nomeia Stephen Ball, que está presente nas interpretações dos sujeitos que, na prática, desempenharam a função de “docentes” (em um sentido estrito visto que o vínculo profissional era precarizado). Palavras-chave: Programa Novo Mais Educação. Performance.Controversies of the new program more education: context of formulation and interpretations in schoolABSTRACTThis article aims to present the results of a research on the Novo Mais Educação Program, as a curriculum policy, and the translation of subjects in a municipal school in Paulista / PE. The methodology was inspired by the policy cycle and included a brief analysis of the context of formulation, of the guidelines present in the official text and of the interpretations of subjects who performed the teaching work at school. This proposal is part of the context of Temer's illegitimate administration and its contradictions. Although it was created from a context that postulated the “full-time and integral education” of the Mais Educação Program, the “new” program only extended time and had a curricular proposal that focused on standardized assessments (only in Portuguese and Mathematics), including the practice of monitoring results. Thus, it reflects the discourse of the culture of performativity, as Stephen Ball names it, which is present in the interpretations of the subjects who, in practice, played the role of "teachers" (in a strict sense since the professional bond was precarious).Keywords: Novo Mais Educação Program.
